Treating Spastic Disorders with Botox Injections

There are many ways to help anyone who may have muscle spastic disorders regardless of muscle tightness, dystonia, or even a disability. There were so many times my muscles used to seize up on me. This situation occurred with me because I was born with a spastic disorder called “dystonia”. It affected mostly my right arm and shoulder. After seeing several doctors, one suggested to me that I try a hospital for treatments called “The Cleveland Clinic” to treat my dystonia. After discussing several options, there was one treatment that I agreed to try which had helped me on and off for a few years. This treatment was called Botulism or “Botox” Injections. Amazingly, it was the same botox that many people use for treating wrinkles. A common belief that surrounds people is that BOTOX Cosmetic is a safe, effective treatment for their facial issues.

Botox is first applied when they give you several injections inserted into your affected muscles for the purpose to release spasticity that you may have. The first step is knowing where the Botox is going to be placed. The muscle is then marked, by your doctor, with a pen. After its marked, they cover that area with a special cream which makes your skin numb. You are then hooked up connected with wires connected to a special machine by a monitor. Your doctor finally injects Botox through the skin into the spastic muscles using a very special designed needle.

Botox is a special substance that helps block the infected muscle from getting spastic. Botox does not cure plasticity, however. The botox which makes it block into the muscles goes into effect between the first 1 – 2 weeks after you are injected. The effects last between three to six months. So after that time, the spasticity usually comes back. You may need to get additional treatments for more botox injections after the last ones wear off after the three to six months are over. Unfortunately, after a long period of time taking it, you may develop antibodies so you may never have it done again. It is a good idea to ask your doctor about the pros and cons of botox injections.

The benefits of Botox Injections are:

  1. It relieves constant muscle spasms or tightness
  2. Your muscles will be more flexible in an average between 3 – 6 months
  3. Therapy treatments will be easier

For anyone who would have similar spastic muscles like myself, I still encourage anybody who is lucky enough to try botox injections whose body muscles can be very spastic to help relieve muscle discomfort. I never recalled any hardships with botox injections. It is so ideal for any individuals who may have it severe. The time frame like myself could vary with anyone when the effects of the botox go through. It is usually no more than 2 weeks. If you are able to get it, just make sure a doctor discusses the botox treatments with you very carefully. This treatment alone can change your life.
