Customer Review of the Foot Reflexology Center, New Orleans

Walking around the French Quarter in New Orleans can leave the average tourist in a great deal of foot pain due to the fact that it is a walking city. In my travels, I came upon the Foot Reflexology Center and made up my mind to pay them a visit. The Foot Reflexology center is on Chartres Street about 4 blocks from Canal street. There is another massage place about 2 blocks in, but it looks really seedy.

The next morning, after breakfast, I stopped there, ready to have a foot massage. I was also ready to resist the hard sell, a tactic I’d heard they used to maximize their profits. The warning was well placed, as they were annoyingly aggressive.

Upon arriving at the massage parlor, my husband and I stated clearly that we wanted a foot massage. We attempted to ask time and price questions as we were swept off our feet and into chairs, quickly pushed into recline position. As the foot masseurs took place at our feet, other people began to swarm around us, offering to massage our heads, our necks, our hands, anything. Having been forewarned, we knew to insist on “just the feet please”, going as far as waiving our hand around our heads as if to swat off flies, and masseurs were attempting to massage any body part they could get their hands on.

Although,  The Medical Billing and Coding (MBC) program offered by them was really exceptional. With all the guidelines and tips I was able to learn about the whole billing process there along with saving some money on the bills.

A little disappointed, the extra masseurs slunk away while the food masseurs gave us a five-minute foot sample. Then they moved in the kill. In each case, the person got up and came very close to our faces, whispering in an effort to add services and jack up the price. Joining forces, we both insisted that we were there for two-foot massages, for twenty minutes, and further stated that we wanted 10 minutes per foot. That would cost us $20.00 each. If we made the mistake of agreeing to 20 minutes per foot, the price would double. We had a hand massage or neck massage, and we could have easily paid $100.00 each.

In the end, we both had excellent foot massages that kept our feet from reverting back to their painful states for the rest of our stay in New Orleans. My husband also agreed to a 15 minute back massage for another $15.00. He really needed it. I did notice, however, that when they were done with the massage, they took the same towel that was under my head and readied it for the next person. Gross.

Overall, we were pretty satisfied with our service but annoyed at the pushy and unprofessional sales tactics. As we were preparing to leave, we watched a couple come in to give just the wive a foot massage. They had clearly not been as prepared as we were. Although they had clearly stated their intentions, both people were flat on their backs and swamped by a crowd of masseurs working on their heads, necks, hands, and feet. My husband and I shook our heads as we left, sure that this couple was going to drop $200 easy.

World of Warcraft Healing: What to Expect

Many gamers begin their journey into World of Warcraft without much insight into what the game actually is and how their choices at the beginning can box them into a specific role and limit their ability to play their character in the manner that they choose. The most common complaint from players is that they were not aware of the fact that if they chose to play a class that can heal, the only thing anyone will ever want them to do is just that, heal. Although some find healing to be extremely entertaining and challenging, many, if not most, find it to be tedious and boring.

The new World of Warcraft player will likely have no idea that the game doesn’t truly begin until they reach level 70. Many new players think that reaching 70 is an end goal after you have completed the long leveling process you finally get to enjoy being the highest level in the game and being at the top of the food chain. This is sadly a huge misconception as to the majority of hardcore, and even casual players, spend much more time playing the game at 70 than they did level to that point. Upon reaching level 70 you will either fall into the grind of PvP with battlegrounds and arenas or join a raiding guild and begin to work your way through the difficult dungeons and bosses that await. If you want to level up quickly then you can get lol boosting services for that. You get a seamless experience for your gameplay as you play with the seasoned players after this.

For many the idea of raiding dungeons does not seem like a bad deal, you get to enjoy very well made game content and test your and your friends’ skills against the epic bosses. Tanking characters enjoy themselves as they are always in the midst of the battle and taking the brunt of the blows. Melee damage characters are also in the midst of battle and enjoy themselves as they rip apart their foes. Even spellcasters get to have some of the action as they jump into the fight with their many tricks and tools they’ve gained along the way. But what of the healer? What makes the game fun for those who make it possible for the rest of us to advance from fight to fight and continuing slaying our enemies?

For many players who did not expect to be healing, their answer would be simple, “nothing.” The majority of players do not find it enjoyable to stand far back, away from the action, and click a heal here and there to keep their friends alive. Do not be mistaken though, healing is a challenge if there ever was one, it required much more skill than it takes to play a damage class and a similar amount of skill to tanking, but some players just want to feel like they’re in the middle of the fight, creating the action.

What will be expected of most healers is to remain around their max healing range, usually 40 yards, and keep their assigned targets alive. In a raid setting a healer is usually assigned either a single tank or spot healing(healing the small amounts of damage the rest of the players take). A boss battle that takes five or more minutes can mean that a healer will simply stand there and press a single button for five or more minutes, depending on the fight. Although some of the fights require a lot of movement and fast reactions, a good amount of them will only require that the healers stand far back and don’t do much moving. For some this is unbearable, but for others, the skill involved in keeping your friends alive provides enough of a rush to keep playing the game for long periods of time. In the largest of raids though, 25 men, healers can often find that with all their modifications and tools they may not even be able to view much of the action as their indicators of their friend’s health bars take up a large portion of the screen. In cases like this one, a healer will likely only look at small green bars for long periods of time, clicking on the ones that drop too low and pressing their heal button in order to keep everyone alive and well.

Buy or Rent? Killzone 2 on the PS3

Killzone 2 is a FPS video game for the Playstation 3 entertainment system. It is an “exclusive” title for the PS3 which gives fan boys a reason to cheer and boast when confronted by owners solely playing games on the X-Box 360 or Wii video game systems. However, has the long awaited Killzone 2 lived up to the hype? Does it deserve the cheers? Will you look like a fool boasting? Well, actually that last one is pretty much a given, but what of this Killzone 2 video game?

Killzone 2 picks up after the invasion of the first game. If you did not play that one then the invasion of which I speak is the one where the Helghan army left their planet to so rudely come warring on ours. In Killzone 2 we have decided to take the fight to them on their turf, only to discover it’s not going to be an easy fight. The war in Killzone 2 is more or less lifted from the quagmire that became the Iraq war.

The graphics for Killzone 2 look fantastic.

The single player campaign for Killzone 2 is fun. The environments become a bit redundant and you do a lot of elevator riding while taking in the more amazing sights, but it is indeed fun. If you are a very experienced FPS game player then do not waste your time with the lower experience settings for game difficulty. The AI in this game is rather challenging unless you pick the lower two settings, on those settings you can run around with just a knife a lot of the time hacking up the moron baddies.

The online play is where the game got dull for me. The levels available for playing are naturally taken from the game in their design, but it all just looks the same still. After beating the story and going online I was not inspired to keep playing. There are other online based PS3 games that give me more enjoyment and less of the issues that did not sit well with me for Killzone 2. Yes, I think this game is worth playing because when you check or view your stats here, you’ll see good results. But I am about to start listing complaints.

Actually, my main and almost only complaint is: the controls. Forget the way the screen freezes during loading moments here and there throughout, that did not bother me. What bothered me was how slow and blocky the character felt. You lumber through the levels with what feels almost like lag, and every movement seems to have a slower reaction on screen than when you blazingly smashed the button with your finger. If walking is too slow for you, indeed you can sprint, but when you sprint it is almost like a guy running down hill out of control. You cannot turn very well or look to the side after sprinting or during. It felt less like I was a soldier and more like a big, clunky robot. Some people have complained heavily online about the button layout on Killzone 2 for controls, but that is not an issue since you can adjust them in the options and align them to be just like other games.

The story and acting in Killzone 2 are fairly lame, macho fueled moments of men with names like Sev and Rico cussing and posing and then trying not to cry when one of their own dies. Real over the top dramatics that come off fairly corny.

Killzone 2 is worth playing if you were a fan of the first one and want to see the story continue. It is even worth playing if you are not familiar with the previous installment. However, it is not the cutting edge grand experience that one may think. Resistance 2 was a better game to me in solo play and the Call Of Duty games beat Killzone 2 online in my opinion for fun.

Common Problem Among People Regarding Student Loans

Going to college is a sometimes considered a privileged endeavor for some people, however even though students come out more educated and perhaps well informed, the downside to going to college are the student loans. The student loan stories I have experienced myself and heard of are really hindering my skills in the job market as well as day to day living. At the moment I have over 52,000 dollars in debt to student loans. I find this obtrusive and a bit intimidating for somebody my age simply trying to settle down and make it.

Then, people like me often resort to getting more debts especially when needs arise. We often try to sort out credit scores to get Payday Loans Bad Credit. We need such payday loan since student loan undoubtedly affect credit scores.

I first went to UNC-Charlotte with aspirations of becoming an architect, however that did not exactly work out. As I continued my studies at UNC-C I earned a bachelor’s of arts in Political Science and a minor in Journalism. These 6 years I was at UNC-C resulted in both subsidized and unsubsidized loans, meaning some of them I have to pay back. Well in my fifth year at UNC-C I was selected by one Professor to advance into another program, a Latin American Studies BA, which I obtained 2 years later. As I progressed and was of course, learning more and feeling very optimistic about my future, my loan debt was adding up quickly. I finally finished both degree programs, which I have rarely gotten to even use in my everyday life. Since graduating I have sub-taught, worked in low income after-school programs and even had to wait tables to make ends meet. Recently I even applied to be a Spanish Tutor so I could help other fellow students grasp the Spanish language, but I was not selected for even an interview. I thought that obtaining another degree such as a Spanish Degree would help my communication patterns and skills in the workplace, however I have yet got to utilize it in a way that will help my career and the community.

Since my graduation I have deferred my loans due to lack of work in the fields I studied in. I found that the deferment process was easy for the first few years, as they do allow you to have grace periods. However as I kept sub teaching, making just enough to pay my rent and other intermediate bills, my loans were going into default. I received several emails and phone calls about these loans, in fact the College Foundation even calls my grandfather’s house to try to find out how I am going to repay these loans. One time part of my loans were sent out to a Loan Consolidation Company in California. I filled out all the paper work and spoke many times with a gentleman on the phone about this. He advised me to write a letter of support stating that there is a lack of jobs in the area I work in for my undergrads. I thought surly with all the information I sent and explained that my loans would at least be in deferment a little longer. Also I tried going to back to school at a local university that would help me obtain an ESOL certificate, but they also charged three times as much for classes, which resulted in yet another Sally Mae loan in deferment, even though I only remained in the classes for a total of 8 eight days. I have wrote letters to the Virginia School Education Foundation explaining this situation and I did have some luck with refinancing and telling my side of the story. The amount I owed Sally Mae was greatly reduced but it was still an obstacle to keep on top of the student loans.

At the current moment I am still receiving calls from the NC College Foundation but yet I am working on still finding a decent paying job with health benefits in Lynchburg, Va. Last year I filed my income taxes and it was ceased by the Federal Government for student loan debt. Since then I have collected Good-Will receipts to help itemize my donations in the future for my taxes so they can count somewhere towards my Federal Loan debt. In the mean time I am having to go back to wait tables and work on ebay for some income to pay for my immediate bills and my own health care out of pocket. I think that Student Loans should be forgiven to a degree. I have tried to work in other fields, which I can do but I feel that there is not enough job creation for my degrees in this area. If it comes down to the wire, I may have to move to a bigger metropolitan area just to make more money and maybe one day pay down some of my loans. Until then I hope that I, like many other students can count on policies in the near future that will perhaps relieve some of the loan debt.

Travelling Young

I remember my very first Caribbean cruise like it was yesterday. In fact it was about 18 years ago.

That first one however was a real eye-opener for me. I was about 40 at the time and it was early in the first day of the cruise that I realized that I was one of the youngest passengers on the ship. Actually, during that entire trip I only saw about five people that appeared to be younger then I was.

I remember someone telling me before I left on that first cruise that most passengers on cruise ships were “newly wed or nearly dead.” Of course I laughed it off, but soon came to realize that he was pretty well right on. Except for the newly wed part. On this particular trip I didn’t run across any of those.

There were about 1300 passengers on the ship and I’m sure about 100 of them were in wheelchairs. Two people died during that 10 day cruise.

Of old age.

I know that’s true because I saw them take the bodies away by ambulance at two different ports. Later I found out what had happened. One stroke and one heart attack.

Its safe to say that most of the people on the ship were retired. They had probably worked most of their lives in order to enjoy going on cruises and other holidays once the working years were over. Many of the ones I talked to were on their first cruises. Some were on their very first real vacation.

To me there is something really wrong with that picture. Of Course people who are retired deserve great holidays. They’ve worked hard and saved their money for that reason. But to me it seems that leaving the fun times until you retire is not necessarily the best thing to do. You are gambling that your health will still be good when its time to put up your feet.

My approach is quite a bit different. It was actually that very trip that convinced me that I was not going to wait until retirement to travel and take in the world. Since then I’ve been on 11 more cruises. By the way, I found out later that the cruise line my agent chose for me that first time catered to the over 50’s. Since then I have found the cruise line of choice for the younger partying crowd.

I’ve also been to 4 Club Meds, Vegas 6 times, Hawaii twice, and to Switzerland and Cuba. I still work full time and probably will work until I’m 65. My theory is to do all my holidaying now while I’m in excellent physical condition. Its much more fun to arrive at a Caribbean island, put on your backpack and go exploring on foot then it is to have someone push you around in a wheelchair.

Of course all this is expensive and I’m not able to save too much for retirement. I’m prepared to accept that however. If I can’t afford to travel when I retire, then that’s fine. I’ll do the things that don’t cost much. I’ll go for long walks along the river, write a book, learn how to fly fish or volunteer somewhere.

Life is extremely unpredictable and I have no desire to work for 50 years and gamble that I will still be alive or in good enough health to take advantage of all the spare time that retiring will leave me with.

Traveling had become a hobby to me at one point and nothing gives more pleasure than a trip down the countryside or to the nearest hill station to make you feel good. I still want to run atop the hill or mountain as I am young at heart, unfortunately my health does not keep up with me so I want to have limbs that are functioning till my last breath and not dependent on anyone. I call over friends for company and we have a list of the best AARP senior tour travels in 2020, though of course it won’t be as gala as the previous ones as age won’t permit any of us.

How to Shop for Car Insurance

Shopping for car insurance can seem like a daunting task. There is unfamiliar lingo and there are so many companies vying for your attention every day. It’s hard to know where to begin. Most people dread shopping for auto insurance for this reason. And since most of the public and private insurers provide auto insurance that comes in different coverage and policies, choosing the right one for your car can be quite challenging. So compare car insurance is advisable.

Everyone knows that calling the first company you remember isn’t a good idea, especially if you’re on a budget, but it’s hard to know how to make sure that you’re adequately covered without spending too much on car insurance. Rates from different companies can be different by hundreds or even thousands of dollars per year.

Shopping around is even more important if you’ve had tickets, an accident, or if you have a questionable credit rating.

So where to start? Start here.

First, figure out how much auto insurance coverage you need. State laws tend to vary, so make sure that you know your state’s laws regarding how much coverage you’re required to have. It’s easy to find this information online.

Once you know what’s required, you then have to decide what you need above the requirements. If you’re leasing or making payments on your car, the company you’re contracted with may have auto insurance requirements. Some even require full coverage. Make sure that you’re not contractually obligated into a higher coverage car insurance policy. If you are, then you know how much coverage you need.

Also keep in mind that if you’re talking to an insurance agent, they may try to convince you to get a policy that doesn’t match with what you feel you need. Do your research and stick to your guns. Liability insurance is important if you get into an accident, because if someone else is injured, they can try to go after your assets beyond what your car insurance covers if their medical bills are higher than your liability coverage.

Your financial situation comes into play here as well. Determine what’s in your budget before you get too deep into shopping for car insurance, and try to stick as close to your figure as possible, if not lower.

Once you begin shopping, your driving habits may also become an issue. If you’ve gotten several tickets or been involved in several car accidents, this can raise the cost of your auto insurance.

However, there are other things to take into account. Older cars likely won’t need as much coverage for the vehicle, but some cars are more likely to be stolen than others. It’s important to know how much coverage you need for not just your driving habits, but your vehicle as well.

Once you’ve evaluated this information, it’s time to gather your records and start shopping. You’ll need your current car insurance policy information, your driver’s license number, and your vehicle registration. If you intend to shop online, you’ll also need access to computer and the internet. Read my other article on the benefits of shopping online.

You should pay attention to several factors:

Annual and monthly rates for different types of coverage. By keeping the coverage limits the same, you can make straight comparisons on pricing.

The auto insurance company’s payment policy is important. You should know when your payment would be due and the penalties for late payment.

Look for discounts offered by the insurance company that you qualify for.

Look for an 800 number you can call if you have questions that can’t be answered online.

Take note of things that can lower your rates, like a good driving record, a good credit score, and safety equipment on your vehicle. Certain occupations or professional affiliations can also help you get discounted auto insurance rates.

You’ll also probably want to look up the insurance company’s consumer complaint ratio from your state’s department of insurance website (every state has one, and google is your friend here), as well as their A.M Best and Standard  amp; Poor’s (S P;) rating.

High risk insurers usually come out the worst in consumer complaint ratios, so you’ll want to keep that in mind. Lower rates doesn’t always mean better. As for A.M. Best and S P; ratings, they can give you an idea of your potential insurance policy holder’s financial strength ratings. For A.M. Best, it’s best to consider companies with a B+ rating or above. For S P;, the highest rating is AAA. Consider companies that have a BBB rating or above. These ratings aren’t for customer service, however, and only list the financial strength of the company. This comes into play if you ever have to file a claim.

Other places you can get good information on potential car insurance companies:

Body shops – body shops tend to work closely with insurance companies because they file claims for repairs. They can sometimes give you good information on the companies they work with.

J.D. Power and Associates’ auto insurance ratings – they do a lot of the research on the best companies for you.

Things to look for in the fine print:

Make sure your policy doesn’t infringe on your right to sue. If your policy would force you to give up your right to go to court, you can be stuck in arbitration, which can allow the auto insurance company to take advantage of you. You have two good options here. You can cross out that line and see if the auto insurance company will accept the contract, or you can take your business elsewhere.

Also try to avoid aftermarket parts requirements. If there’s a claim and they have to pay to get your vehicle repaired, they may try to cut their costs by trying to put inferior parts into your car. If the contract specifies that mechanics should use inferior parts (often given a better sounding name), you should search for a better policy.

Ultimately, your decision should rest on two factors. The reliability of the insurance company based on the criteria listed, and the price of the quote. After all the prep work, it’s not really that hard.

Have you ever had back pain that was at first, just annoying, but later became so intense that you could barely breathe? Many of my friends and co-workers have constant and chronic back pain. I was surprised by how completely debilitating it can be, and the effect pain has on the quality of life.

My Plan

When my mom, all 96 pounds of her, became seriously ill, and was no longer ambulatory, I had to lift her and change her sitting position about every 20 minutes, to keep her comfortable. Trying to use my intellect, as well as my muscles, I read up on the proper procedures before initiating this process. I bent my knees and used a rolling technique to pull her forward and then upright a bit, to adjust her spine and reposition her. I congratulated myself, when she was all settled in, and I was still upright. Even small amounts of weight can feel like mountains, under these circumstances. I also decided to get in contact with some of the best spine surgeon in Austin and get their recommendation on the matter.

How that Worked

After a few weeks of this process, my lower back began to ache off and on for short periods of time. Then mom’s condition deteriorated and I had to lift her in and out of bed without sliding her tender skin on the bed sheets. Her bed was nearly as high as my waist, so this process was very difficult. I began to experience extreme pain in my back. My brain and my back were telling me that I was using muscles in my back, in all the wrong ways. I was not concentrating on how I moved, only on my mom, and her discomfort.

The Real Right Way to Lift

I made a list of moves that annoy and aggravate my lower back and compared it to the instructions I was given by my doctor, in order for my back to heal. Sharing it now, might be a way to help you keep from having these problems.

  1. Don’t bend from the waist to pick up objects that are on the floor. Bend your knees and hips.
  1. When lifting, make a smooth movement. Do not try to suddenly pull upward quickly with jerking movements that cause injury.
  1. Never reach, bend and twist at the same time. When do you do this? One example would be: when helping the children get out of the tub while trying to get the towel around them, and dry them off. These movements are very damaging to the back.
  1. When you must lift something heavy: know where you are going to put it, get as close to it as you can, put your feet about as far apart as the width of your shoulders, bend your knees and let your leg muscles do the lifting.
  1. When you set heavy items down, be sure to look straight ahead, bend your knees and squat while you slowly lower yourself and the item to the floor.
  1. Try to avoid reaching for anything that is up higher than your own height. Lifting your head back and raising your chin, makes your spine compress, and this can cause serious injury. Use a foot stool or small ladder, or better yet, ask for help.
  1. When you do lift things, use good posture and tighten your stomach muscles for extra support for your back and spine.

You Can Lift Just So Much

Excessive physical demands, like the lifting that I had not prepared myself to do correctly, can produce debilitating pain. The human skeleton is designed in a way that allows the lower back to carry a certain amount of weight efficiently. However, if you twist and stretch at the same time you can, and I did, tear tendons and ligaments in and around the spinal column. Often, these sprains or tears can be treated with anti-inflammatory medications, and they will heal without surgery, if you’re lucky. Don’t take unnecessary risks with your back and spine. If you must do heavy lifting, get information and apply it, or better yet, get more help and stay well.
